about the project

thespillsmiths.org is a two part awareness project created in response to the 2010 gulf oil spill. Part one is an art, jewelry, and video installation project which was held at Mr. Beast Gallery in Savannah, GA, November 4-9, 2010. Part two is the online interactive education platform, thespillsmiths.org, which includes documentation of the Savannah project and an online retail store where visitors can buy jewelry to support gulf oil spill clean-up efforts.

Bong Sang Cho - Metalsmith. Currently an MFA Candidate at SCAD, developing jewelry designs for the Spill Smiths. He has worked with Komelia Okim taking classes and acting as an assistant for summer workshops at Penland School of Crafts. He has also worked as an assistant to Namu Cho.

Gabriel Craig - Metalsmith, writer and craft activist. SCAD Metals and Jewelry Department Artist-in-Residence. Project adviser and facilitator.   






















Jillian Daleiden - Jillian is from Georgetown, Texas. She received her BFA from the University of Texas. She is currently in the Metals and Jewelry Program and the Animation Program at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Ryan Holandes - Metalsmith from Flagstaff, AZ. He is working towards an MFA at SCAD because he suspects that we need to "Craft" the changes for our world.

Seonyong Lee- Jeweler and Metalsmith from Seoul, Korea. Seonyong earned her BFA degree in Metal Art and Design in Hongik-University, Seoul. She has been a MFA candidate at Savannah College of Art and Design since 2008. She has been defining, reconfiguring and expressing herself within conceptual jewelry and objects.

















Hsiang-Ting Yen-  Originally from Taoyuan, Taiwan, Yen earned her bachelor's degree in International Business Administration in Taiwan.  She then decided to pursue her true dream and enrolled in the Metals and Jewelry program at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she has been an MFA candidate since 2008.  Yen is focusing on combining goldsmithing techniques and alternative materials to create a conceptually oriented style of jewelry.
